Frequently asked questions on LeanHeat
The most effective environmental act is to reduce energy consumption, as nearly 70% of a building's energy use comes from heating. That’s why the temperature in all Juli homes is controlled with artificial intelligence: we use the Finnish Leanheat energy efficiency system, which optimizes indoor temperatures while saving energy.
The AI-based Leanheat heating control system measures the temperature and humidity inside the apartment using sensors installed in the homes. The data from these sensors is sent to the system, which adjusts heating as needed.
What does the sensor mounted on the apartment wall measure? The sensor measures indoor air temperature and relative humidity.
Is it possible that the sensors collect other information that residents haven’t been informed about? The sensors are neither intended nor capable of collecting any data beyond temperature and humidity.
What do the sensors control? Based on the sensor data, an average temperature is calculated for the apartments in the property. The temperature of the heating system’s supply water is then adjusted according to this average, aiming to keep it as constant as possible.
Why are the radiators cold even though it’s freezing outside? Since the heating is regulated based on the indoor temperature average, sometimes there's no need for heating even during cold weather. The outdoor temperature does not directly determine the supply water temperature in the heating network.
Where is the sensor data stored and who handles it? The measurement data is stored in Leanheat’s cloud service. Adjustments are made by AI algorithms that also take weather forecasts into account. Leanheat specialists monitor the operation of the cloud service, including alerts and other functions.
Can the heating be adjusted individually for each apartment based on the sensors? No. While each sensor measures the conditions in individual apartments, the actual heating adjustments are made on a property-wide level.
What is the humidity measurement used for? Humidity measurements do not influence automatic heating adjustments. However, they can help detect potential moisture issues or poor ventilation performance.
Is our apartment’s heating entirely controlled by AI? Doesn’t a human oversee it? Primarily, heating adjustments are managed by AI. However, the system includes alerts, based on which Leanheat and Juli Living experts monitor building conditions.
Can our apartment receive additional heating? The target indoor temperature is 20–21°C. This is based on the current housing health regulations, which consider 21°C optimal for health. For the sake of fairness, this target is not adjusted unless there is a very compelling reason, such as a significant imbalance in the heating network. In order to ensure comfortable living conditions in the coldest apartments, the average target may need to be raised.
Where exactly is the sensor installed in the apartment? The sensors are generally installed in consistent locations. In small apartments, there may be only one or a few optimal spots. Because movable furniture may block sensors, their placement is based on where furniture can be more easily moved rather than on current layout.
Is there any researched information about radiation from the sensors? The radiation emitted by the sensors is extremely low. Compared to a mobile phone, the radiation level is about one millionth.
